Y-Club is a Christian service club that has been in existence at Pickens High School for over 10 years. The sponsor is Suzette Hermann. Y-Club completes a school project and community project each month during the school year in addition to regularly scheduled meetings. Meetings are held each Thursday morning at 7:25 in room 212. Y-Club’s projects vary from month to month and year to year based on needs and involvements of the group. For the community, the group has sent cards to many individuals who have been ill or expressed a need. Members have helped at the local food pantry and with other community groups who needed helpers. Nursing home visits are common for some members. One of the current projects is helping Pickens County Reading Council to provide baskets of books for babies and bags of books for foster children. In school, the club has cleaned teachers' boards and given teachers angel ornaments. The club has put together goody bags for different athletic teams and baked cookies for band members over the years to show school spirit and support the students. Queen of Hearts and King of Diamonds contests are always of interest during Y-Week in January. Y-Club has several district- and state-level conferences outside the local community. The year begins with District Rally held in Cartersville. There is a Youth Assembly held in November at the state capital for 3 days to give students experience in the legislative process. Y-Club Basketball is always a hit in February and March for those who like the game but do not play for the school team. Christian Life Conference is held in the spring to fellowship and award clubs for the year’s accomplishments. The PHS Y-Club has been an honor-rated club several years and was a "AAAA Honor Club" one year based on its involvements. Students also have opportunities to serve as district- and state-level officers. Y-Club is usually a small group of very committed individuals who meet needs and provide valuable services to the school and community. Anyone is invited to participate or join!
