 Glencoe: World Geography

Objective: To familiarize students with the political, cultural, and geographic characteristics of civilizations around the world.  Due to the immense amount of material that can be covered in this class, the goal will be to familiarize students primarily with major historical developments, prominent social practices, and influential geographical features for the various regions around the world.  Students will enjoy a varied learning environment.  Lecture, note-taking, projects, reading, and competition will all be used during this course.

Classroom Behavior: Students will be encouraged to respect others and their environment in all that they do.  Consequences for misbehavior will be determined by the teacher and/or administrator based on all relevant circumstances and will correspond with guidelines outlined in the Student and Teacher Handbooks.Grading:  Scale:  Tests 40%,            Day to day assignments 45%,          Final Exam 15%

Notebook:  Students will be expected to maintain a notebook containing all class work, homework, projects and tests. The purpose of keeping a notebook is to help students develop organization skills.  Organization of the notebook will likely be part of the graded material for the course.

Absences & Make-up Work & Late Work:  In the event that a student is absent from class, it is the responsibility of the student to obtain make-up assignments.  A folder will be available where students may locate any assignments that were missed.  Students will be allowed the number of day(s) absent to complete make-up work.  Assignments turned in after the allotted time or assignments late without an excused absence may be disregarded entirely or penalized at the instructor’s discretion.

Class Materials:  Students are required to have pen, pencil and paper.  It is also recommended that students obtain a 3 ring, 1” notebook, and colored pencils/markers.  There will be a very limited supply of these materials to borrow in class, so make sure you come prepared.
