This semester we will be studying American Literature, including short stories, drama, poetry, nonfiction, and essays. We will be reading works by Benjamin Franklin, Edgar A. Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ernest Hemingway, Robert Frost, and others. Our studies will also cover grammar, composition, and vocabulary. I look forward to a successful and interesting semester with each of you!
In order for us to work well together there are certain expectations I have of you. They are simple and few:
- You will bring your notebook, pencil, pen, and textbook with you to class unless told otherwise by the teacher.
- You will be in your seat ready to begin class when the tardy bell rings.
- You will be courteous to each other and to the teacher.
- You will punctually do all assignments to the very best of your ability.
- You will follow the code of conduct and dress for Pickens High School as outlined in your Student Handbook.
A supply of #2 pencils with erasers.
A blue or black ink pen.
A three-ring binder notebook with loose-leaf paper.
Grades are determined very simply in this class. Daily grades and quizzes are recorded once in the grade book and tests are recorded twice. At the end of the grading period all grades are then added together and divided by the total number of grades. This determines your nine weeks’ grade which is eighty-five percent of your final semester grade. Your final exam at the end of the semester is worth fifteen percent of your semester grade. All eleventh grade final exams consist of the Georgia End of Course Test.
