Introduction to Early Childhood Education

The introduction to Early Childhood Education class is to introduce students to the widely changing field of Child development and Child Care. Child Development Theories, Child Care Programs, Curriculum, and Careers will be explored.
            The textbook for this class is Working with Young Children by Judy Herr. The textbook will not be issued and used only in class.

Students will need the following supplies for class:

  1. 1” or 1 ½” three ring binder
  2. 6 Dividers
  3. Pencil and Pen

Human Growth & Development

Human Growth and Development for Early Childhood addresses the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors associated with supporting and promoting optimal growth and development of infants and children. Topics that may be addressed include principles of physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and moral development; human needs across the ages and stages of childhood; impacts of family and societal crisis on the development of the child; and career decisions.
The textbook for this class is Children: The Early Years by Celia Anita Decker. The textbooks will not be issued and used only in class.

Students will need the following supplies for class:

  1. 1” or 1 ½” three ring binder
  2. 6 Dividers
  3. Pencil and Pen

 

Introduction to Interior Design          

The Introduction to Interior Design class is to introduce students to the basics of Interior Design. Careers within the area of interior design will be explored. The students will accomplish many activities, such as chapter work, projects and sewing. All of the projects will be compiled in a portfolio for future reference in other Interior Design classes at PHS and beyond.
            The textbook for this class is Housing Decisions by Evelyn L. Lewis and Carolyn S. Turner. The textbooks will not be issued and used only in class.

Students will need the following supplies for class:

  1. 1” or 1 ½” three ring binder
  2. 8 Dividers
  3. Colored Pencils or Crayons

 

Foundations of Family & Consumer Science

The Foundations of Family and Consumer Science (FACS) class is to introduce students to foods and nutrition, textiles, and consumer skills. The course also gives students hands on experience with cooking in the lab with a group and individually sewing using sewing machines. Students will learn how to properly use various types of kitchen equipment and sewing equipment. Each student will need a 3 ring binder, dividers, index cards, notebook paper and a pencil or pen for class. The textbook for this class is Skills for Personal and Family Living by Frances Baynor Parnell. The books will stay in the classroom.

Family and Consumer Science Pathway Essentials

The FCS Pathway Essentials class is to introduce students to the widely carried areas in Family and Consumer Science. Students will be introduced to the following subject areas: Child Development, Housing and interior Design, Culinary Arts, and Sewing/Fashion Design. Careers in each area will be explored.

The textbook for this class is Skills for Personal and Family Living by Frances Baynor Parnell. The textbook will not be issued and used only in class.
