Course Description:
          This course is designed as a survey of Chemistry and Physics.  This includes developing an understanding of the structure of atoms, motion and forces, the conservation of energy and matter, the action/reaction principle, and wave behavior.  Students investigate physical science concepts through experience in laboratories and work using the processes of inquiry.

Resources Used:

  • Textbook:  Glencoe: Physical Science
  • Classroom notes, hand outs, etc…

Materials Needed:

  • Notebook and loose leaf paper (At least 1 inch thick, and for science ONLY)
  • Pencils and Pens (blue or black ink only)
  • Other suggested materials: Colored pencils, 3X5 note cards, calculator (to perform simple calculations), highlighter, tab dividers for notebook

Methods of Instruction:

  • Lecture:  Gathering information in the form of notes from verbal lecture, or guided by Power Point, textbook, overhead, etc..
  • Demonstrations
  • Labs
  • Group activities
  • Projects

Evaluation/ Grading Procedures:

  • Every assignment will be given a percent grade based on total possible points and points earned, or based on provided rubric defining grading guidelines
  • Semester Grade: 
    • Q1 42.5%
    • Q2 42.5%
    • End of Course Exam 15%
  • The value of quarter grades will be based on the following:
    • Tests/Quizzes 50%
    • Homework & Assignments 25%
    • Labs and Activities 15%
    • Quizes 10%

*** It is expected that all assignments will be neat and completed on time
*** Attendance is CRITICAL due to the nature of this course.  Many in class notes, assignments and labs are difficult to replace.  Alternative assignments are to be expected.

Late Assignment Policy:

  • Full credit will be given only to assignments completed on time, or within the PHS policy as stated; three days after an EXCUSED absence.
  • If you turn in an assignment late the highest grade possible will be a 50%.  This includes early dismissals and athletes.
  • If you are absent from class or school it is your responsibility to find out about any missed work.  Do not expect me to remember or remind you to collect missed information.

Course Description:
          This course is designed as a survey of Forensic Science.  This includes developing an understanding of the science behind solving crime, the laws, rights of criminals, and will include many projects and labs.  Students investigate Forensic concepts through experience in laboratories and work using the processes of inquiry. We will have the privilege of hearing from several officers and GBI agents.

Resources Used:

  • Textbook:  Forensic Science for High School
  • Classroom notes, hand outs, etc…

 

Materials Needed:

  • Notebook and loose leaf paper (At least 1 inch thick, and for science ONLY)
  • Pencils and Pens (blue or black ink only)
  • Other required materials: Permission slip for fingerprinting, Permission slip for exposure to many different types of criminal documentation including photographs and transcripts.

Methods of Instruction:

  • Lecture:  Gathering information in the form of notes from verbal lecture, or guided by Power Point, textbook, overhead, etc..
  • Demonstrations/ Guest Speakers
  • Labs
  • Group activities
  • Projects

    2. Be Present and On Time
      • Attendance is necessary for success
      • Unexcused absences will result in no credit for work that day

    5. Be Responsible
      • Make requests for bathroom and other passes at appropriate times. Use breaks and time in between classes wisely!
    6. Be Safe
      • No food or Drinks in the Lab.  Closed containers must remain closed during class.
      • No gum
    7. Be Ethical
      • Cheating:  The act of obtaining answers or completing assignments in a fraudulent or deceitful manner. Any suspicious acts may be subject to repeat of alternative assignment or test, Parent conference, or administrative referral. The result of cheating is a zero.
    8. Be Mature
      • You have been properly notified of the policies on dress code and cell phone/ electronic device usage at school. If you are asked to surrender your cell phone, or go to the office for any reason, be mature and do not disturb class.
      • Remember you are in high school; leave your childish ways behind you.
