Class Supplies

- A graphing calculator is not required but is highly recommended.

Topics covered in class will include, but are not limited to:

  • Solve problems and determine the reasonableness of an answer.
  • Simplify and evaluate algebraic expressions and properties of the real number system.
  • Solve and graph linear equations and linear inequalities, and apply the concepts to problem solving.
  • Solve and graph absolute value equations and inequalities in one variable.
  • Graph ordered pairs and linear equations in one or two variables using intercepts and using a chart.
  • Find the slope of a line and write an equation for a line using various combinations of given information.
  • Identify, graph, and evaluate functions and relations.
  • Determine the sum, difference, product quotient and composition of functions.
  • Identify inverse relations and determine if the inverse is a function
  • Identify, solve and graph systems of equations and systems of inequalities.
  • Solve linear programming and decision-making problems by solving linear inequalities.
  • Identify real nth roots of real numbers with perfect powers, and identify and simplify complex numbers
  • Simplify radical expressions and their products, quotients, sums and differences including rationalizing the denominator.
  • Evaluate expressions with fractional exponents.
  • Solve quadratic equations by square roots, completing the square, factoring or the quadratic formula.
  • Use the discriminate to analyze roots of quadratic equations.
  • Graph quadratic functions, and determine their maximum or minimum value.
  • Organize data into matrices and add, subtract and multiply them.
  • Find the inverse and determinant of a matrix
  • Use an augmented matrix or Cramer’s Rule to solve problems involving several equations and to solve real-life problems.
  • Perform operations on polynomials and solve polynomial equations.
  • Evaluate, graph, and find zeros of polynomial functions.
  • Use rational exponents; perform operations with and find inverses of functions.
  • Solve exponential and logarithmic equations.
  • Simplify and perform operations with radical expressions.
  • Graph rational functions and solve rational equations.
  • Use variation and rational models in real-life situations.
  • Graph and write equations of conics; classify conics.

  • Graph ordered pairs, find the distance between the points and find and use the slope of the line through the points.
  • Identify and use angle relationships.
  • Make conjectures and use the laws of logic.
  • Use the properties of parallel and perpendicular lines and prove lines parallel and perpendicular.
  • Classify triangles and apply theorems involving triangles, prove triangles congruent, solve problems by identifying and achieving sub-goals, and use properties of isosceles and equilateral triangles
  • Identify and use special segments in triangles, prove right triangles congruent, and recognize and apply relationships between the sides and angles in a triangle.
  • Recognize and use the properties of parallelograms, rhombi, rectangles, squares, and trapezoids.
  • Draw, locate, or describe a locus in a plane or in space, draw reflection lines, lines of symmetry, and points of symmetry, and draw translation, rotation, or dilation images
  • Recognize and use ratios and proportions, identify similar figures and use their properties to solve problems, and use proportional parts of triangles to solve problems
  • Find the geometric mean between two numbers, use the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse, and  recognize and use trigonometric relationships from right triangles.
  • Write equations of circles in the coordinate plane, find the measures of arcs and angles in circles, use properties of chords, tangents, and secants to solve problems, and solve problems using graphs
  • Identify parts of polygons and polyhedrons, find areas of polygons, find areas and circumference of circles, solve problems involving geometric probability, and determine characteristics of a network
  • Solve problems by making models, draw three-dimensional figures, and find lateral areas, surface areas, and volumes of solids
  • Write and graph linear equations, prove theorems using coordinate proofs, perform operations with vectors, and locate points in space.
