Driver's Education

Joshua's Law

http://www.dds.ga.gov/Joshua/index.aspx

"Senate Bill 226 also known as "Joshua's Law" was passed during the 2005 General Assembly. Beginning January 1, 2007, all 16 year-olds applying for a Class D driver's license must complete an approved driver education course and complete a total of 40 hours of supervised driving, 6 hours of which must be at night, with a parent or guardian's sworn verification that these requirements have been met. Any Georgia resident who has not completed an approved driver education course must be at least 17 years old to be eligible for a Class D driver's license. He or she must have completed a total of at least 40 hours of supervised driving, including at least 6 hours at night. The same verification in writing by a parent or guardian is required. "

Students must have either a learner's permit or driver's liscense on the first day of class in order to take Driver's Education.

Grades:
Unit Test -      45%
Daily Grade  - 40%
Final Exam -   15%

Daily Grade is an all or none grade. If you have all of the work, you receive a 100 for the grade. If you don't have all of the work, you receive a 0 for a grade. A grade
grade of 0 may change to a 50 if the work is truned in before the end of the classroom portion of the course. (The classroom portion of the course ends after week 4.

Driving Time:

Students must drive everytime they are assigned to drive. If you do not drive all of your driving assignments, you will not pass Driver's Education. If a student knows they are going to miss a day that they are scheduled to drive, they need to swap with another student with the teachers' permission. If a student misses a driving assignment, they will receive a 0 until they make up that day. After missing a driving assignment, a student must come to the driving area everyday to check if they may make up the assignment. One zero for a driving assignment will result in failure of the class.

We will be in the classroom for 30 instruction hours and driving for 6 instruction hours. On days that you do not drive, you will attend a Team Sports physical education course and recieve 1/2 unit credit for participating in that class.
