Honors World History

1) Assignments 30%

- differentiated tasks done in class that require students to discover and review topics
Each day, students will be given an assignment that will be completed and graded in class. The grade will be
based on the percentage of questions and tasks that are completed correctly. For example, if a student answers
24 out of 25 questions correctly, the daily assignment grade will be 96.

2) Tests- 70%-
evaluation of the student’s ability to apply knowledge, critical thinking skills, comprehension and
retention of topics covered in class and in daily reading assignments. Tests will be given at regular intervals
(usually every Thursday) and will be graded on a percentage basis (see “assignments” above). Occasional
writing assignments will be classified as tests for grading purposes. Writing assignments will be graded with a
rubric which will be provided to the student prior to the writing assignment.

The mid-term exam will count as two test grades for the 3rd quarter.
The final exam will count 15% of the semester grade.

Classroom guidelines
1) Be on time with materials (pen/pencil, paper, and book)
2) Remain in your seat
3) Stay awake and alert
4) Do not disrupt learning or interrupt the teacher
5) Be respectful to others
6) All school rules apply in room 409 (dress code, cell phones, hats etc)

AP European History

1) Weekly Prep grade 15%
requires the student come to class each day prepared to engage topics in a meaningful way
Each day, students will be assigned 5-12 pages to read from the text. The next school day, each student will be asked a
different question to test comprehension and retention of the previous day’s reading assignment.  Each question is a
percentage of the week’s total. For example, if a student answers 3 of 4 questions correctly that week, the weekly prep
grade will be 75.

2) Assignments 15%

3) Tests- 70%

class and in daily reading assignments. Tests will be given at regular intervals (usually two weeks or covering two units) and
will be graded on a percentage basis (see “assignments” above). Occasional writing assignments will be classified as tests for
grading purposes. Writing assignments will be graded with a rubric which will be provided to the student prior to the writing assignment.
There will not be a mid-term or final exam for AP European history.

Absences
It is the student’s responsibility to determine what is missed due to an absence. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete any assignments or tests that are missed due to an absence. Students have 3 days upon return to school to make up any grade missed due to an absence. Additional absences do not extend the make-up period.

Students are responsible for material if it was assigned before an absence.
Example:
Reading assignments are made on Monday. A student is absent on Tuesday and returns to class on Wednesday. The student will be responsible for the reading assignment which will be covered on Wednesday. The student will not be responsible for the reading assignment covered on Tuesday.

When a student misses an assignment a grade of zero will be recorded. The student may obtain a copy of the assignment and complete it within 3 days of return to school. The student will complete the assignment on their own, check it against a classmate’s assignment that was graded in class, and then show the completed and checked assignment to the teacher. The assignment will then be recorded as a 100 but will be exempt from calculation in the student’s average. Assignments which are not completed, checked, and submitted to the teacher will remain a zero and will be calculated in the student’s average.

When a student misses a test, a grade of zero will be recorded. The student may take the same test before or after school within 3 days of return to school. The teacher will score and record the test but it will be exempt from calculation in the student’s average.  Students who are absent during a test have the option of taking a test different from the original that will be scored by the teacher and will count toward calculation in the student’s average. Upon missing more than one test, the student must take a test that is different than the one originally issued that will be included in the calculation of the student’s average.

All tests must be completed within 3 days of returning to school.
Students who are absent the day before a test but present on the day of a test will have the option of making up the test according to the process described above.
