 Math 1

This is the first in the sequence of secondary mathematics courses designed to ensure that students are college and work ready. This course requires students to:

  1. explore the characteristics of basic functions using tables, graphs, and simple algebraic techniques;
  2. operate with radical, polynomial, and rational expressions;
  3. solve a variety of equations, including quadratic equations with a leading coefficient of one, radical equations, and rational equations;
  4. investigate properties of geometric figures in the coordinate plane;
  5. use the language of mathematical argument and justification;
  6. discover, prove, and apply properties of polygons;
  7. utilize counting techniques and determine probability;
  8. use summary statistics to compare samples to populations; and
  9. explore the variability of data.

(Prerequisite: Successful completion of 8th Grade Mathematics.)

Class: R-Math I
Period: 4th
Teacher: Mrs. S. Baggs
Room: 187

Expectations:
You are expected to arrive on time EVERY day with the necessary materials. This includes paper, PENCIL, (NOT pen), book and good attitude.

You will be expected to behave as young ladies and gentlemen.  You should respect other class members. This includes their property, personal space and feelings.

You will be expected to complete all work assigned to you to the best of your ability. This includes daily work, homework, (rarely given), quizzes and tests.
Daily work, quizzes and homework are to be kept in a notebook. You may use either a 3 ring binder or a spiral notebook. If you choose a spiral notebook it needs to have some kind of pockets for you to keep any worksheets.

Your grade will be determined from your daily grades and your test grades.  Homework, when assigned, will count as a daily grade.  Tests count 50%, daily/homework counts 40% and quizzes count 10%. At the end of the semester each quarter grade counts 42.5% and you will take a final exam that counts 15%.

There is no food or drink allowed except for bottled water. Exceptions may be made for this at the discretion of the teacher.
