SAT TEST DATES & DEADLINES – Register online at www.collegeboard.com

(This test is offered at high schools in Cumming, Canton, and Blue Ridge on selected test dates - go online to select a test sites.  Some colleges will require or recommend the writing portion as well.)

SENIOR PARENT NIGHT – Thursday  Sept, 3 – 6:30 p.m. – PHS New Auditorium.  You will receive information about Test Dates, STAR Student selection, Scholarships, Websites, Senior Fee, etc.  ALL seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend.  A representative from Georgia College 411 will be present.

PROBE COLLEGE FAIR –  Wednesday, Oct. 28 – Gilmer County High School – 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  Details to follow.

PSAT – Wed., October 14 – administered to students in 10th grade from 8:00-11:00 a.m. 

BALFOUR will be with us on Senior/ Parent Night - Thursday, Sept. 3 to provide information about Graduation Announcements, etc.  Orders will be taken October 29th  during all lunch periods.  (Students can also go online to order and this is highly recommended for those with computer access) there will be a minimum deposit – cash, check, credit.  Save NOW!

Senior Fee - $70.00 will help cover the cost of your Cap & Gown, Tassel, Diploma, Diploma Cover, etc.  Order online at  www.hrcampussupply.com with a credit card or pay Mr. Smith with a check or cash. 
This fee is due to BALFOUR before or on Tues., Feb. 2.   Start saving NOW!  This fee will go up after March 1st.  

HOPEStudents must have a 3.0 GPA meeting the college preparatory track requirements, or a 3.2 GPA meeting the career-technology track requirements.  ALL COURSES taken in core areas will be used in determining GPA.  For example, if a college prep student takes Physical Science, Biology, Zoology, Chemistry, and Physics, all 5 of these grades will be used to determine GPA.  More information is available at www.GAcollege 411.org.    This website helps you plan, apply, and pay for college.

The FAFSA (is used for HOPE application).  You must apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  You will need your Parents completed 2009 tax return documents in order to complete the FAFSA, so the earliest you can apply is Jan. 1, 2010.  The sooner you apply after that date, the sooner you will know how much you must pay for college.

College Visit Procedure:  You are allotted TWO days to visit colleges of your choice.  You will not be counted absent for these days if you follow the procedure below:

  1. Form on wall in the hall outside guidance office.  Fill in the blanks.  Include parent signature.
  2. Call College Admissions Office and make an appointment.
  3. Request a form letter from the college you visit stating that you were there.
  4. When you return – Show both forms mentioned in 1 and 3 above to front office staff here.
  5. Show office excuse to your teachers.

***STAR STUDENT***Selection Process

  1. Student must rank in the TOP 10% of the Senior Class
  2. SAT Score must be one of the 10 highest in the Senior Class
  3. You must use score from ONE Administration of the SAT Reasoning Test
  4. The last acceptable SAT test date is November 2009

                                    Yearbooks are on sale now for $55.00.  Seniors may purchase a nameplate for an additional $5.00.
